Ascension Day – 21st May 2020
This Thursday (21st) is 40 days after Easter and is named ASCENSION DAY. On this day the risen Lord finishes his resurrection appearances; he ascends to heaven and is no longer present with the Church in a physical bodily way. As members of the Church we are now the new body of Christ, and we wait to be filled with his life through the gift of the Spirit, which will be given on the feast of Pentecost a week on Sunday (May 31st).
The story is found in your Bible in the Book of Acts, chapter 1: 1-14.
We will reflect more on this passage on Sunday, but here are some prayers to use on this important day in the Church’s year:
Risen Christ, you have raised our human nature to the throne of heaven:help us to seek and serve you, that we may join you at the Father’s side, where you reign with the Spirit in glory, now and for ever. Amen.
Lord, touch my lips: that I may sing your praise with all my heart.Risen and ascended Lord, I worship you:Christ the King, I praise you.Glory to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit:mystery of love, behind, through and beyond all things.I will worship the Lord: all praise to his name.
